Radiologic Technology is the Health Sciences specialty that involves the administration of ionizing radiation for the purpose of obtaining diagnostic radiographic images. Radiologic technologists are the medical professionals who perform diagnostic imaging examinations. They are trained in human anatomy, patient positioning, exposure techniques, equipment management, radiation safety, radiation protection and pertinent patient care. Radiographers work with some of the most technologically advanced equipment in the medical field to produce both 2-D and 3-D diagnostic images of tissue, organs, bones and vessels of the body. Radiographers use their skills to solve problems and to work with other members of the health care team to deliver compassionate and accurate patient care.

The Radiologic Technology Program is designed to provide the student with the theory, laboratory and clinical skills, and knowledge required for employment as a Certified Medical Radiographer. The Radiologic Technology curriculum consists of courses taught over a period of 22 consecutive months and culminates in an Associate of Applied Science degree and eligibility for the national certificate exam given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).    The Radiologic Technology program meets the requirements of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), as well as those for the Texas Medical Board (TMB) for General Radiologic Technologists licensure.  Successful scores on the ARRT national certification exam and meeting the qualifications set forth by the TMB will qualify the graduate to practice as a Certified General Medical Radiologic Technologist

Radiographers find employment in a variety of institutions: a hospital environment, dedicated imaging center, clinic or private doctor’s office. The boundaries of your career in radiologic technology are determined only by your education, abilities and interest.

The average hourly wage for an entry-level staff radiographer is approximately $20.00/hour. This varies according on position, years of experience, degree of education, geographic location and practice setting.
